Wooded Backyard Retreat

This showcase landscaping project in Afton, Minnesota features a cascading stream with three waterfalls, circular cobble paver patio, in-ground patio fire pit, and dramatic lighting design.

The yard needed to be completely graded before the project could start to ensure proper drainage, and to set the multiple levels of the landscape design.

As you enter the patio space your attention focuses on the three rushing waterfalls that cascade out of the woods into a stream (120 ft long) that flows around the patio, and finishes near the firepit.

The cobble paver patio (750 sq. ft) is the main focal point as you look out the windows of the house. The stream wraps around a circular patio, framed in smooth flat stones from the shores of Lake Superior. An irrigation and drip system keeps the lawn and plantings properly watered.

A low stone bridge spans the stream and connects the patio to an in-ground fire pit. At night, the entire landscape is bathed in the glow of a dramatic lighting design.

Guests can admire and enjoy a perfect northwoods Minnesota setting. Who needs a cabin up north when you can have it all in your back yard?
